Educational Membership Site

In December of 2014 I Founded and built Codemy.com to teach people how to code online. The website teaches programming through a series of unique courses made up of videos that students can watch at their own pace and ask questions along the way by posting them below each video. Codemy.com currently offers courses in Ruby on Rails, and PHP.

Solely responsible for all aspects of developing the website (both front end and back end) as well as recording, editing, and producing all course videos and materials; and marketing the site once built (Adwords, Facebook Advertising, etc).

Front End Discussion

I heavily modified a Wordpress theme (both the design as well as the backend php code) for the UI of the site. I custom coded the HTML and a lot of CSS and some frontend PHP as well. Wistia streams all videos, and Aweber automates Email follow-ups.

Back End Discussion

The site is hosted on a VPS (virtual private server) running Linux Ubuntu 12.04 LTS, Apache web server, MySql database for wordpress, and custom PHP coding throughout. Various modified wordpress plugins handle the membership functionality of the site. Amazon Cloudfront CDN pushes all images and static css/javascript files.

Design And Copy

Worked with a group of logo designers to create the Codemy.com logo, but all other design work was done by me with Photoshop. I also wrote all the copy for the entire site as well as all course materials for members. Wrote, Shot, Edited, & Produced all course videos.

Internet Marketing

Researched adgroups and ran Adword ads for the site, and also ran targeted Facebook ads as well. I also created a Facebook fanpage and Twitter profile for the site.
